Compliance Brief - Reporting Shut-in Wells in Colorado

July 20, 2020

During the remote hearing the COGCC held on April 29, Commissioner Brenda Haun asked several questions about shut-in wells. She was particularly surprised to hear that Colorado did not have a form for an operator to submit when they shut-in a well.

How do agencies get notified of operators temporarily shutting in wells? They don’t. At least not until 15 days after the end of each month. Or 60 days for some states.
